When children receive their adult molars, Dr. David Trebisovsky recommends dental sealants in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, to prevent cavities. Dental sealants are effective for adults, too, especially for individuals who are prone to tooth decay. Dental sealant is typically applied to the chewing surface of the molars, which are the most difficult teeth to clean properly, and the process is both quick and painless

Before Dr. David Trebisovsky can apply the sealant, he must first clean to the tooth to avoid trapping bacteria underneath the sealant. First, he will polish the tooth to remove plaque and food debris from the grooves of the tooth. When the tooth is dry, he will etch the surface of the tooth, and then rinse the etching material away to allow the sealant to bond with the roughened surface.

Dr. David Trebisovsky will then dab liquid sealant onto the chewing surface of the tooth, allowing it to flow into the grooves. A special dental flashlight, known as a “curing” light, will bond the sealant to the tooth in about 30 seconds.

When the sealant is fully hardened, Dr. David Trebisovsky will evaluate his work to ensure the tooth is ready to be used again. If the sealant is too thick and will interfere with your bite, Dr. David Trebisovsky will buff off the excess. The tooth can now be cleaned and chewed upon as normal.

The dental sealant doesn’t replace the need to brush and floss daily, but it will provide your mouth with extra defense against tooth decay. If you’re concerned about cavities and other oral maladies, contact Sandpiper Dental at 763-561-7000 to schedule a dental sealant appointment.
