Preparing for a Dental Cleaning
As you get ready for your upcoming dental cleaning appointment, it’s beneficial to know exactly what is going to happen in the dental chair—that way you’re not nervous or scared. To help you know what to expect at your dental cleaning, you can look forward to the following things:
A Deep Cleaning
Our dental team will deeply clean your smile with small tools and we will scrape the plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth, which will reduce your chances of developing gum disease. This technique is one of the main reasons why your dental cleanings are so important. If you fail to remove the plaque and tartar off your teeth, they will continue to grow and they will destroy your smile, eventually resulting in loose and lost teeth.
A Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatments are very important and beneficial because the mineral strengthens and nourishes your smile, giving you the ability to fight off tooth decay and other dental issues. So, we will give you a fluoride treatment in addition to your cleaning. This fluoride treatment will likely be flavored and it will come in the form of a varnish, gel, or foam. We will simply place the fluoride into your mouth and will wait for a few minutes as the minerals soak into your teeth. After the time is up, you will rinse your mouth with water.
A Dental Exam
The exam is a great way to thoroughly check your mouth for any dental issues. First, your dentist will visually inspect the mouth with small tools. Then, our team will take X-rays of your teeth, roots, and gums and your dentist will examine those pictures as well. If you do by chance have any dental issues, like tooth decay or dental fractures, we are happy to begin the needed treatment right away.
These three tasks are simple and painless, and they are the best treatments that will help you have the oral health you deserve. These appointments are very important, and we are proud of you for caring for your smile the way you need to! If you have any questions about dental cleaning or if you would like to schedule your next appointment, call our office now. We look forward to talking with you!
